Vineyard terraces at Quinta do Bomfim

Located in the North Eastern part of Portugal, along the banks of the river Douro - one of the longest rivers in Europe - lies the Douro Valley. Protected to the west by a range of mountains and the Spanish/Portuguese border to the east, this immensely beautiful wine region stretches over 250,000 hectares. The total vineyard area represents just 15% of the delimited region and is home to over 33,000 farmers.

Demarcated by Royal Charter in 1756, the Douro valley is split into three sub-regions, the Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and the Douro Superior and produces some of the most intense and structured wines in the world.
