Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira

New Vineyard Plantings in 2009

Dow was one of the first Port houses to invest in premium vineyards in the Douro, acquiring Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in 1890 and Quinta do Bomfim in 1896. For well over a century these properties have provided Dow’s with wines of superb quality. The vineyards have been carefully maintained and replanted by each generation of Symington winemakers who have been responsible for the viticulture at the estate, a dedication which continues to this day.

This year over 6 hectares of new vineyards will be planted at Quinta da Senhora de Ribeira. They will be evenly divided between Touriga Nacional, a variety that is ideal for Port production but only represents 3% of plantings in the Douro (although a remarkable 60% at Ribeira) and Sousão, renown for its fine acidity and bold tannins which add depth, complexity and greater longevity to the Quinta’s wines.
